Moana

Well, I think I'm in the minority with this film, because I wasn't really jazzed by it. I saw a lot of similarities between this film and "Kubo and the Two Strings" in terms of message and how the story unfolded. But I also felt that it was trying to be witty and clever and endearing ln the way that "Trolls" was. Unfortunately, because those two purposes were at odds with each other, I felt this film failed to really deliver on either front. I thought the message of the film came off as trite and actually played into some of the gender stereotypes it was trying to overcome. I also felt much of the humor felt stale and the songs weren't nearly as good as in other Disney films or in "Trolls". In the end, this didn't really do it for me I'm sorry to say. 3/5

Pain & Gain

I almost didn't rent this, as I gave up on Mark Wahlberg a lot of years ago. However, I do love The Rock, so I took a chance and rented this. I was not sorry. This was a smart, stylish, well directed action thriller with really standout performances from all the leads, including Wahlberg. The Rock was, as usual, hilarious, and the script was tight and well written. I really enjoyed this, a I recommend it. 4/5

San Andreas

This is enjoyable in the same way "Twister" was. It's a basic story graced with very good actors and regrettably bad CGI effects. The CGI was bad enough in spots that it took me right out of the film, but The Rock has come so far with his acting ability that he was a joy to watch as usual. It's good popcorn fun, and if you like popcorn action flicks, this is worth a rent. 3/5

G.I. Joe: Retaliation

I had no earthly idea what was going on for most of this - the Asia sequences felt like a different film. Now I don't know the source material, but this really felt like two movies jammed into one. Only watch it for The Rock and Channing Tatum. 2/5

This action flick has 3 things going for it - stellar acting, Mansell's great score & Tillman's outstanding direction. I'm honestly surprised as how much I liked this. Honestly... pretty damn good. 4/5
