The Edge of Seventeen

This is a wonderful, sweet, laugh out loud funny, endearing, and sometimes dark coming of age story. I really loved it - it had a heart and a humor that blended so well together. I went between laughing loudly, cringing, sighing with relief, and tragically sad throughout the film. The acting was wonderful, the direction very good. I highly enjoyed this film. 4.5/5

I wasn't sure about how overly stylized the beginning of this Jane Austen adaptation was, but I fell in love with it quickly. The acting is superb across the board, the direction very picturesque, and the script tight and well paced. This is one of the better Austen films I've seen to date. 4/5

I've been way off Cronenberg's films for a while, but I decided to give this one a try on a whim. It was simply brilliant with truly tremendous acting from all the leads. Truly stunning. 4/5

Dom Hemingway

THIS. THIS RIGHT HERE. This is what I've been talking about regarding Oscar nominations for actors.. "Dom Hemingway" is not a fantastic movie. It's full of plot holes and narrative drift. However, Jude Law gave the performance of his life in this. He achieved something I never thought he could, took his abilities to heights I had no idea he could reach. His portrayal of Dom was jaw-dropping in its intensity, verbosity, & wickedly black humor. This performance, and ones like it, are what should be getting Oscar nominations. This amazing, rich, darkly wonderful acting job should have given Jude Law a place at the Oscar table, and it's a crying shame that it didn't. 3.5/5

If this film had just 5 minutes of exposition it would be a 4 star film - the plot is just too vague to make sense. It makes me angry actually - this was a potentially awesome & dark film. It reminded me of Shotgun Stories - no exposition. Bah. 2/5
