A War

This Danish drama asks interesting questions about the nature and realities of war without passing judgment on any of the sides. I appreciated the honesty of the acting and the visceral nature of the story itself. Well done and an interesting morality drama. 4/5

The Inheritance

The plot synopsis on Netflix describes this as a parable, and I think that's a very accurate description. What do you give up for family? Which family is more important - the one into which you are born or the one you choose? When is putting your own needs first selfish and when is it necessary? This film asks all this as we watch our main character make increasingly hard decisions that pit his values against each other. There is a moment in this film, a point of no return, that is both jarring and unsettling in a very poignant way. Very well done. 4/5

Babette's Feast

This is a tender and lovely movie with strong messages about art, love, and faith. It's shot simply with a gentle eye, but was so delicately beautiful. Charming. 3.5/5

Pusher 3: I'm the Angel of Death

The last installment of the Danish thriller series was less impactful than the first two but an interesting finale. I've never been so aware of the reality of dismembering a body before. Eeesh. A solid series, really well acted. 4.5/5

Old Men in New Cars

This Danish black comedy started out farcical but turned too zany & screwball for me to believe. 2.5/5
