The Blackcoat's Daughter

This movie is the very definition of ominous. It reminded me very much in tone and style to "The Witch", which is high praise coming from me. This psychological horror film is the latest from Oz Perkins, who also wrote and directed the wonderfully creepy "I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House", which I just loved. Both films are very atmospheric, driven by haunting and discordant scores, and feature strong performance from the female leads. Be warned that this is a very slow film that leaves very much to the viewer to unravel, so make sure you are paying attention while you watch it. But do watch it, it's a lovely thriller and very well made. 4/5

This thriller is just an internet version of "Would You Rather?", which was a superior movie in most ways. The ending really didn't work for me, but I enjoyed the cinematography and the music a lot. Good acting from Dave Franco and Emma Roberts as well. 3/5

It's Kind of a Funny Story

Far more serious than I expected, this film paints a perfect portrait of real mental illness. And seriously, Galifianakis is SO SO SO amazing in this I have no words. And I hate this guy. Amazing. Seriously. 4.5/5

Kiefer Sutherland's rich narration is what really makes Schumacher's teen-drug-angst film stand out - wonderfully acted & written. Seriously, the prose is lush, the stuff Bret Easton Ellis fancies that he writes but doesn't. Good stuff. 4/5
