Lovesong

This is such a lovely, touching, wonderful film. Riley Keough is rapidly becoming one of my favorite actresses. Jena Malone is wonderful as ever. It's a slow and tenderly drawn portrait of these two women, done with such grace and subtlety that I couldn't help but be drawn in. I hope that the Academy remembers Keough at awards time. Love this. 4/5

American Honey

This was a truly exceptional film, one of the best that I've seen from last year. The only reason I docked it a star was that it was at least thirty minutes too long and it dragged slowly at times. Sasha Lane made her acting debut in this, and I think she has a bright future ahead of her. The nuances in her acting were those of a more seasoned actress, and I was surprised to learn this was her first film. Riley Keough and Shia LaBeouf was also both outstanding and the three had tremendous chemistry together. The direction was wondrously lush and full of layered metaphor. This film lives in the same world as "Hick" and "Dixieland", and that's high praise from me. Highly recommended. 4/5

What a gem this was! This film is directed and framed so well I nearly cried. It's lush and picturesque and unexpected in its angles and palette. Honestly, it was so beautiful that, if the script had been garbage, I would have watched it for days. However, the script was as beautiful as the cinematography. It was layered and subtle and had an end that caught my breath in my throat. To top it off, Chris Zylka and Riley Keough were both just perfect in the lead roles. This is a truly gorgeous film that is affecting in every way. This is Hank Bedford's first feature film, and I can't wait to see what he writes and directs next. A true tragic joy. 5/5

The Good Doctor

Orlando Bloom was superb in this subtle, understated & cerebral drama with a great ending. Very well done. 4/5
