Mad Max: Fury Road

This is in fact the second time I've seen this movie. The first was in the theater, but my companions accidentally bought 3D tickets. 3D movies make me incredibly ill, I had to watch most of it without the glasses on, and by the end I felt like dying and proper hated this film. My husband convinced me to watch it again so I could properly review it, and I'm glad he did. This is a good film, adrenaline filled, action packed, and with a great score too boot. The direction is AMAZING, and I even enjoyed the acting. The problem for me remains the plot, as in there really is no plot. And this is why I'm totally baffled at the nod for Best Picture, because.... well.... no plot you see. Director? Costumes? Music? Cinematography? Sure. All that. But Movie? No damn way. Still, it was fun, I did really enjoy it. 4/5

Make no mistake, Tom Hardy has proven he is the finest working actor in cinema today, and his performance in this film simply cements that. His versatility and prowess is evident in all his work, and his nuanced portrayal of the infamous Kray twins is just exquisite. The problem with this film isn't Hardy, but rather the lackluster script that goes nowhere and only scrapes the surface of what could have been a far more fascinating story. As such, this was just average for me, but I'm shocked Hardy didn't get an Oscar nod for this. 3/5\

The second of Nick Cave's features is also very gritty, seedy, dark, & explores morality in an interesting way. Well done. Incidentally, Cave's first film, "The Proposition", remains one of my very favorite films in in the last decade, which is very high praise indeed. 3.5/5

Warrior

This magnificently acted film allowed its characters to unfurl like dark roses. Absolutely stunning & amazing. There were 2 scenes that maybe 10 living actors in the world could have pulled off & Nolte NAILED both of them. Brilliant. 5/5
