It Follows
The first review of this film on Netflix starts with the sentence 'this is horror'. And it is. This is what true horror is - the endless feeling of suspense, the music that becomes a character in and of itself and creeps you down to the bone, the achingly drawn out shots where you see the danger coming and no one else does, the feeling that you, as the viewer, are trapped in this world as well and will never escape. This is the feeling you got when you watched the first "Halloween", when you saw Hannibal Lecter speak in "Silence of the Lambs", when you stared into the static of the TV in "Poltergeist" and felt trapped yourself. This. This is horror, and it is wonderful. 5/5

Kidnapped
If brutally violent horror films aren't your cup of tea, don't even think about renting this brilliantly brutal and sadistic Spanish horror fest. However, if you want to be taken on a terrifying roller coaster ride of suspense and utter terror, this is your film. The cinematography is truly amazing, with the best split screen work I've seen in years. There are no answers, no quick fixes, no white knights in shining armor. If ever there was a film to follow classics like "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" or "I Spit on Your Grave", this is it. Truly worthy of the horror pantheon. 4.5/5

Jupiter Ascending
#FTRQ "Jupiter Ascending" - Before I say anything, let me emphatically state that I could care less about political agendas in my films. Quite the contrary, I tend to hate massive political overtones in my films, so when I say that the makers of this film should be incredibly ashamed to put out this anti-feminist piece of garbage, that's it's REALLY bad. So bad that I could not help but marvel at what a helpless dim-witted fool Jupiter Jones was, and why she immediately fell in love with a man who needed to constantly save her from herself. This film is insulting to the senses in nearly every way, but if there was any way I could have felt anything but dismay and disgust at the helplessness of our heroine, perhaps I could deem this movie at least worth watching. As it is, it's pretty CGI with a terrible story. The only thing worth watching is Redmayne, but isn't he always? Terrible. Just terrible. 1/5/5
