Scenic Route

I rented this at the same time I rented "Curve" this week. Both films had similar plots concerning being stranded alone in a fight for survival. I said in my review for "Curve" that films with this type of plot either go quite wrong, as "Curve" did, or very very right. This film does it really right. The acting is stellar - Duhamel and Fogler really put it all on the line for this. The direction is tight and gripping, and the script is just great. But the piece de resistance is the ending, which is just absolutely perfect. A wonderful film and a great thriller. 4.5/5

Lost in the Sun

This dark drama is highlighted by quite adept performances by Josh Duhamel and Josh Wiggins. The chemistry between them felt real and honest, and the slow pace of the film allowed their relationship to deepen naturally. Solid direction and good supporting performances made this a solid indie film - I liked it a lot. 4/5

The Romantics

By all rights I should have hated this but I surprisingly didn't - I found it a fascinating character study. BTW, this would be a perfect double-feature with Baumbach's "Margot at the Wedding" - both are quite good. 4/5
